Now Iceland is proceeding to actually prosecute some of their formerly most powerful bankers and the Icelandic special prosecutor has stated that it very well may indict some 90 people.
Meanwhile, over 200 people, including the former chief executives of Iceland’s three biggest banks, face criminal charges for their activities.
The people of Iceland have overwhelmingly risen up and forced their government puppets of the banks to resign. Primary banks have been nationalized. The debt scam imposed by Great Britain and Holland money printers was declared null and void. A public assembly has been created to rewrite Iceland’s constitution.
The best part is, all of this happened without violence or bloodshed. A whole country’s revolution succeeded against powers that created the current global crisis without a shot being fired. A very good reason exists for the apparent failure of television and newspapers to provide any publicity on this unprecedented event: what would happen if the rest of the EU and the United States took this as an example?
The following is a summary of the facts:
2008 – The main bank of Iceland is nationalized.
The Krona, the currency of Iceland devaluates and the stock market halts. The country is in bankruptcy
2008 – Citizens rise up at Parliament and succeed in forcing the resignation of both the prime minister and the effective government. New elections are held.
Yet, the country remains in a bad economic situation. A Parliament act is passed to pay back 3,500 million Euros to Great Britain and Holland by the people of Iceland monthly during the next 15 years, with 5.5% interest.
2010 – The people of Iceland again take to the streets to demand a referendum. In January of 2010, the President of Iceland denies approval, instead announcing a popular vote on the matter by the people.
In March, a referendum and denial of payment is approved by popular vote of 93%. Meanwhile, government officials initiate an investigation to bring to justice those responsible for the crisis. Many high level executives and bankers are arrested. Interpol dictates an order to force all implicated parties to leave Iceland.
An assembly is elected to write a new constitution (based on the Denmark’s) to avoid entrapments of debt based currency foreign loans. 25 citizens are chosen — with no political affiliation — out of the 522 candidates. The only qualifications for candidacy are adulthood and the support of 30 people. The constitutional assembly started in February of 2011. It continues to present ‘carta magna’ from recommendations provided by various assemblies throughout the country. Ultimately, it must be approved by both the current Parliament and the one created through the next legislative election.
In summary of the Icelandic revolution, we saw:
-resignation of the entire corrupt government of the country
-nationalization of the bank
-referendum enabling the people to determine their own economic system
-incarceration of responsible parties, and
-a rewriting of the Iceland Constitution by its people
This is significant stuff.
Have we been informed about this through the main stream media?
Has any political program on radio or TV commented on this?
Not that I’ve seen. The Icelandic people have demonstrated a way to beat the international money printers and controllers of information. The last thing entrenched usurers would want is for you to think you could also free yourself from their chains.

The people of Iceland are totally independent of the world and do not HAVE to trade with anyone because they have abundant FREE electricity from the superheated steam from the many volcanoes. They grow huge quantities of fruit and vegetables inside mile after mile of heated polytunnel,they have massive fishing grounds that have not been plundered by the Spanish and only half the population of LIVERPOOL! Jahson, you’ve got it all wrong brother. Iceland has nothing to do with the Nobel organisation, Sweden is the home of the Nobel Prizes except the Peace Prize which is awarded by Norway. I do agree with you as regards Obama, he is probably the biggest disappointment of the century, he is an excellent fence-sitter and con artist. As for the Icelandics, they are my modern super heroes!

I take it you don’t follow the news in the UK then? There was an extended piec on this at the end of last week on Radio 4’s World at One. The reason it’s not in the red tops is two fold, firstly there’s no bloodshed, but plenty elswhere and secondly, it isn’t reflective of the rest of the world.
If the Icelanders are so smart, why did they let it all happen? Easy to blame a ‘government’, but voter apathy is the real root cause. When all appears to be going well noone bothers to ask questions. Tell me I’m smart after the fact, but I warned all of my clients away from Iceland years before their bubble burst.
And when the bubble did burst, why did the UK and Holland bale out their own savers? They had no right to do that and even less right to demand the money back from Iceland. High interest rates were the reward for high risk and when the gamble was lost, why should I as a UK tax-payer or any Icelandic tax-payer cover the loss?

This is an EXTREMELY idealized image of what happened in Iceland. It has ironed out many of the subtle (and negative) events that transcended during the politico-economic crisis that hit the country. So much so that I can hardly figure out where to start!
For example, the most corrupt politician, former Prime Minister David Oddsson (aka “Little Hitler”), who originally sold the national banks to his cronies back in the 1990s was the Director of the Central Bank when the crisis hit — did not resign from that post, NEVER admitted any wrong-doing, and moved on from the gov’t to take over the reins of the largest national newspaper in the country, and is busy re-writing the history. He was never pressed by the ‘population’ or ‘revolution’ to reveal the inside story, never taken to court. No one has ‘revealed’ the story of how it was that with wide and naive public support he was able to do all kinds of stuff when in power! The Icelanders always behaved in a very sheep-like and uncritical way towards trendiness, and loved their material goods which they consumed with more fury than Amurikans.
The UN should also be included in the critique — as they always listed Iceland as one of the least corrupt countries in the world — where actually corruption was rampant (oh, how can this happen in a modern Nordic country!?), and nepotism was and is still a basic rule of the game. Not surprising for a country of just over 300K people. Every one knows everyone else. There were/are many factors that your story does not catch and it is clearly not informed by any insiders…

Not mentioned is that Iceland has defied the international banking system, and is now doing quite well, economically.
There was a moment when the bankers threatened that their move to nationalize their banks would destroy chances for loans or investments. Quite the contrary, investors were underwhelmed, and money continues to flow.

Unquestionably agree! You have addressed so many angles and I appreciate the blend between the spiritual/social concerns and politics. (and by spiritual, I do NOT mean religious). I know some people don’t like to blend the two subjects, and in my opinion it weakens both politics and spirituality to keep them separate. The political is personal.

Speaking the UK, the idea that there are no losers in the Icelandic revolution other than the bankers is seriously naive. The world doesn’t work that way.
I’m impressed by a lot of things the Icelandics have done but let’s face it, the sequence of events goes like this:
British councils give Iceland money, therefore they owe us money.
Icelandic revolutionaries take the liberty of cancelling the debt.
British councils have to cut services
British people become the losers of the Icelandic revolution.
I honestly have no idea how you can truly cancel debt as opposed to passing the buck elsewhere. Companies and other organisations budget on the assumption that debt will be collected. If debt is not collected the company/organisation suffers and ultimately people suffer through loss of jobs and/or loss of services. .

The time will come I think. The relatively small population of Iceland just made it happen faster there. That being said it serves the icelandic people credit when we once Again see them filling the streets in huge protest. That has to scare the hell out of the corrupt politicians as they know what might happen to them 😉
