Real change always begins within. It begins with becoming Awake.
And becoming Awake begins with Wonder.
That tiny blue speck is home to countless beautiful species, and each individual within each species is unique.
Once we REALLY get this; we realize that every living being on this planet is also…AMAZING
… and PRECIOUS.
And that all of us are connected.
It goes far beyond elections and voting. Yes, politics can help us achieve goals as a society, and they can assist or impede our work to build a better world. Imagine what a healthy society would be like, and vote for the most progressive, conscious individuals you can. Support people who care about our environment, who have a desire to see economic justice, who are compassionate and who aren’t eager to go to war. However, politics, (being often largely vulnerable to ego and other unsavory aspects of human nature), is probably the weakest tool we have for change.
Politics right now can achieve small changes — but what we are in need of right now are BIG CHANGES.
…these small changes may have a really big impact on some people’s lives. Access to health care, birth control, safe abortions, etc. can be life changing for some, and so it’s worth playing this year’s election game instead of turning our backs on those who need these policies.
But we must remember that in the grand scheme of things — in all of the possibilities for change — these changes are extremely small. After all, those in power would never give us the opportunity to make large changes that would threaten their control. But that is exactly the kind of change we need. And so in order to make this real change, we need to do more than just vote. – Alternet
So HOW do we do the REAL work of building a more caring, just, and environmentally sane world?
There are so many instances of injustice, cruelty, greed…it can be overwhelming.
This brings us back to the phrase that began this post:
Real change always begins within…and blooms outward.
And so, every day I challenge myself: How compassionate can I become?
And then our behavior changes, along with our words, our deeds, and yes, our politics.
You will never find a selfish, cruel or greedy conscious person.
Our behaviors become patterns that HELP OUR SOCIETY EVOLVE.
Below are a few suggestions for outward behaviors to make a difference and help change our society. (Most of these have to do with economic justice and environmental wisdom.)
And every day we need to find a way to express love and justice in a society that is currently built upon competition and exploitation. It is our love that will help us change our society.
Let’s think BIGGER.
